Free Clinic of Central Virginia Welcomes Dr. Derrick Brown as New Executive Director
The Board of Directors of the Free Clinic of Central Virginia is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Derrick Brown as the organization’s new Executive Director, effective June 17, 2025. Dr. Brown brings a wealth of leadership experience, a deep commitment to community service, and a proven record of innovation and impact in Central Virginia.
Dr. Brown joins the Free Clinic at a pivotal moment, following the remarkable tenure of outgoing CEO Jen Kilgore Webb, RN, MSN. Under Jen’s leadership, the Clinic expanded dental services, stabilized
staffing, introduced telehealth mental health care, and transformed special event fundraising through the addition of four successful community events. She cultivated strategic partnerships, increased volunteer hours by 33%, and grew grant revenue by 17%. Jen also guided the organization through significant challenges—including a recent fire that temporarily displaced operations—while ensuring continuity of care, organizational stability, and a seamless transition to temporary facilities. The Board of Directors extends its deepest gratitude to Jen for her extraordinary service and unwavering commitment to the Clinic’s mission.
We are immensely grateful for Jen’s leadership, especially during these challenging times,” said Jenna
Rolfs, Chair of the Free Clinic’s Board of Directors. “Her dedication to our mission has been truly
remarkable, and she leaves the organization well-positioned for future success.”
The Board is excited to welcome Dr. Brown, whose background as an educator, nonprofit founder, and
community leader aligns perfectly with the Clinic’s vision for the future. Dr. Brown has held leadership
roles in Lynchburg City Schools and Amherst County Public Schools, founded the nonprofit IRON Lives,
and has been recognized with numerous awards for civic leadership and innovation. He has also helped
Lynchburg City Schools secure over $11 million in competitive, federal state grants. Dr. Brown’s expertise
in organizational leadership and his passion for serving underserved populations will be invaluable as the
Clinic continues to provide quality healthcare to those most in need.
“The Board is energized by Derrick’s vision and commitment,” said Joan Deal, Board Vice President. We
are confident that his leadership will build on the strong foundation established by Jen Webb and the
board and guide the Free Clinic into an exciting new chapter.”
Dr. Brown shared, “I am honored to join the Free Clinic of Central Virginia and look forward to working
with the dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners who make this mission possible. Together,
we will continue to ensure that everyone in Central Virginia has access to the healthcare they deserve.”
The Free Clinic remains committed to its mission and will continue to operate from its temporary
locations while planning for a return to its main facility. The Board invites the community to join in
welcoming Dr. Brown and in expressing heartfelt appreciation to Jen Webb for her years of devoted
service.
